Township road thieves
To the Editor:
McHenry County Township road commissioners are tax thieves. They should be arrested for their tax crimes against municipal and homeowners association homeowners.
Fact – the township road function is a major activity of townships in terms of tax levies and expenditures. Property taxes levied by the township are levied on the entire township for use on streets and roads (only) in township unincorporated areas, excluding the township unincorporated areas of the homeowners associations where private roads are maintained by the associations. McHenry County has 30 municipalities and there are 72 homeowners associations. City taxpayers support township roads, in addition to paying a municipal tax for city street maintenance and plowing.
