Warm weather delays opening of Chicago ice rinks

CHICAGO — This week's unseasonably warm weather may be perfect for Thanksgiving Day football games, but it's a little too warm for Chicago's outdoor ice skating rinks.

The Chicago Park District announced Tuesday that four of its seven outdoor skating rinks will open late this year because of the warm temperatures.

Three will open Friday, as originally scheduled. They are located at McKinley Park, Midway Plaisance Park and Warren Park.

On Saturday, rinks at Mount Greenwood, Riis and Rowan parks will open, weather permitting.

The Rink at Wrigley is expected to open Nov. 28.

There's a fee to skate at The Rink at Wrigley as well as at the indoor rink at McFetridge Sports Center in California Park. Admission to all other rinks is free.
