What I’m thankful for

To the Editor:

I am thankful for the gifts in my life, the children who have brought me so much joy, so much emotion. The husband who is there on the other side of the bed every night. The faithful dog who will follow me around no matter my mood and always want to cuddle up with me.

I am thankful for at least one last holiday season that won’t be via video chat with my soon-to-be Marine son. I am thankful for the time spent with my two daughters, even though they will be fighting within two hours of the one who is in college returning home.

I am thankful for the time I was given with those I have lost, and the time I have left with those who are not long for this earth.

I am thankful for having a large family no matter how much stress and strife they tend to drag around as they have made me the person I am, the good, the bad, and the ugly.

And last but not least, I am thankful that I live in a country where missile strikes are not a daily part of my life, where I am allowed to say what I want, wear what I want, and believe what I want, even though it forces me to allow others the same rights.

So the next time a comment or letter or tweet or Facebook post annoys you because you don’t agree, try to imagine what it would be like to not have the right to say anything at all.
