To the Editor:
As has been my greatest privilege and honor for many years, I sing for my favorite heroes, our veterans, at the Combined Veterans Organizations of the city of McHenry Veterans Day ceremony.
The commanders and presidents of the veterans’ organizations and Mayor Susan Low share meaningful words, emotional words that bring tears to all in attendance. This year was no different. There is the greatest sense of gratitude for our heroes, these seemingly ordinary people in our midst who put their own lives in harm’s way to defend our liberties and freedoms.
The city of McHenry takes pride in the large membership and support of our six veterans organizations. I feel that the city has this deep sense of pride because of the support and encouragement of the honorable Mayor Low. She speaks with great passion and deep pride for our veterans. I am convinced that because of her support, our community unites to support our veterans, whether to salute them, or to participate in the veterans activities. She is an integral part of the veterans ceremonies.
Low is an active member of the Patriot Watch Riders who celebrate the arrival, departure and special visitations of our brave warriors. She personally attends the wakes and funerals of our local heroes, who have sacrificed until death. I consider Low a hero, as well.
