Set aside politics

To the Editor:

It has been a long time since a board member representing residents in rural McHenry County was chairman of the County Board.

I think most agree that control and power has been concentrated in board members from the southeast portion of the county. It’s time for a change.

Several board members violated the Open Meetings Act by rotating in and out of a secret meeting. It would be honorable and fair for them to drop out. Giving a District 6 member the responsibility of overseeing the draft county development ordinance would be just and fair. After all, it’s the groundwater, farmland and quality of life in the western part of the county that are most at stake.

Yes, we know that deals have been made. Will that board surprise us and set aside politics as usual and do the right thing?

Ersel Schuster of District 6 has the knowledge, experience, honesty and transparency necessary for this position. Hopefully, the members will realize this would be in the best interests of the whole county.
