Richmond fire damages cars, garage

RICHMOND – Three vehicles and a detached garage were heavily damaged during a structure fire Wednesday morning in Richmond, according to the Richmond Township Fire Protection District.

Crews were called to the 11200 block of Lakeview Road at around midnight for a report of a structure fire, according to a news release. Crews arrived to find a detached garage fully engulfed in flames.

The garage had three vehicles inside and a workshop attached to the back of the building, fire officials said. The fire appears to have started near a wood burning stove that was in use in the workshop.

Approximately 25,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire, which caused more than $100,000 in damage to the structure and vehicles inside.

Several area departments, including some from Wisconsin, were called to assist with the blaze, which required the transportation of water to the area because of the rural location of the call.

No one was injured during the incident.
