Hultgren, Ryan place friendly wager on MAC Championship

U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren issued the following news release on Friday:

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Randy Hultgren has initiated a friendly wager with Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio on Friday night’s Mid-American Conference Championship game at Ford Field in Detroit.

Hultgren represents No. 21 ranked Northern Illinois University (NIU) in DeKalb, and Ryan represents No. 17 ranked Kent State in Kent, Ohio. The NIU Huskies will face the Kent State Flash at Ford Field in Detroit, Mich. at 6 p.m.

The Congressman representing the losing team will present the Congressman representing the winning team with treats from his district. Hultgren has offered up a holiday basket from Graham’s Chocolate in Geneva.

“I look forward to sampling the gift basket of gourmet goods from Kent’s local bakeries and the Kent Displays Boogie Board that Rep. Ryan will be sending from Ohio, because I know the Huskies are going to win tonight,” Hultgren said. “Coach Doeren and the team have had an outstanding year.”

Last year, Hultgren made a similar wager with Congressman Bill Johnson of Ohio when NIU faced the Bobcats of Ohio University. Per the terms of that wager, Johnson later  made a speech on the House floor congratulating NIU on its victory, while holding an NIU helmet.
