SPRING GROVE – A man tried to abduct a 12-year-old boy Tuesday in an unincorporated Spring Grove subdivision, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The boy got off a school bus at North Forest and West Greenwood avenues in the Lotus Woods subdivision and was approached by a man wearing a black ski mask and driving a black work van with two rear windows, authorities said.

The driver asked the boy for directions and then offered to give him a ride home, saying he knew the boy’s mother. After the boy gave the directions and declined the ride, the driver sped off, authorities said.
