Athlete of the Week
Gregoire, a 6-foot-1 guard, had all of 21⁄2 practices when he stepped in with the Trojans against Grayslake North on Thursday. He led C-G with 17 points as it defeated the Knights, 53-37, in their Fox Valley Conference crossover game.
Gregoire hit 8 of 8 free throws and nailed one 3-pointer. Gregoire was with the Trojans’ Class 6A state runner-up football team, so he missed all the preseason practices with C-G.
“His shot’s going to get better as it comes, but he’s just a real aggressive player and very skilled as well,” Trojans coach Ralph Schuetzle said. “He was probably our leading scorer this summer, and we knew he would be in the fold.”
Setback: Huntley forward Amanze Egekeze, a 6-foot-6 junior, has had the start of his season delayed further. Egekeze had surgery to relieve the patellar tendinitis in his right knee in September.
Huntley coach Marty Manning said Egekeze has been told the surgery should produce the desired results, but Egekeze will not be back this month as first hoped.
“Now we hope we get him back on Jan. 7,” Manning said. “We had hoped for the third week in December.”
Egekeze is a returning Northwest Herald All-Area selection and is an NCAA Division I prospect.
