Tina Hill selected as County Board chairman

WOODSTOCK – Ken Koehler's eight-year reign as McHenry County Board Chairman ended Monday morning.

The newly seated County Board elected Tina Hill, R-Woodstock, to a two-year term as chairman, beating Koehler, R-Crystal Lake, and two other challengers. It took the County Board two tries until a candidate received the 13 votes needed for a majority on the 24-member board.

Board members Ersel Schuster, R-Woodstock, and freshman Joe Gottemoller, R-Crystal Lake,  also ran for the chairmanship.

In that second round of voting, Hill received 14 votes, Koehler, 4, Schuster, 3, and Gottemoller, 3.

"We have lots to do and as a team I'm confident we can accomplish them," Hill said.

The board also elected James Heisler, R-Crystal Lake, to a two-year term as vice-chairman, replacing John Jung, R-Woodstock.

The County Board swore in nine new members Monday, the largest freshman class in at least 20 years. All 24 seats were up for grabs this election year because of post-census redistricting.
