School nurses

To the Editor:

It’s contract time in District 300. Teachers are seeking pay increases, smaller class sizes, etc. The nurses are part of this district too, and haven’t seen a pay increase or additional benefits in four years.

Depending on the school they work at, a single nurse can be responsible for 400 to 800 students. Children with special needs, children with cardiac issues, epilepsy, seizures, diabetes, asthma, feeding tubes, dispersing of daily drugs, documenting all students that come in every day, parents and staff who consult with the nurse for medical advice.
