Spring Grove resident appointed to criminal justice citizens panel

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

A Spring Grove resident was appointed to a Lake County panel designed to bring a nonlegal, community perspective to the issue of wrongful convictions.

Art Peterson of Spring Grove was appointed Monday by Lake County State's Attorney Mike Nerheim to a newly created citizens advisory panel. It was created in conjunction with an independent case review panel.

Before retiring, Peterson was a reporter for the News-Sun, covering Lake County courts, county government and many municipalities. He also is a past president of the Northern Illinois Newspaper Association.

The citizens advisory panel will meet once a month with Nerheim, serving as a liaison between the state's attorney office and the community, and looking into issues related to restoring trust in the criminal justice system.
