Top Ill. Republicans back immigrants' licenses

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Top Illinois Republicans plan to announce their support for providing driver's licenses to illegal immigrants.

House Minority Leader Tom Cross of Oswego and Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (ruh-DOHN'-yoh) will join former GOP Gov. Jim Edgar at a news conference Tuesday at the state Capitol.

The plan awaiting a Senate floor vote would allow the 250,000 illegal immigrants who are already driving the chance to be tested, licensed, and buy insurance.
