CL resident wins $275K with lottery quick pick

CRYSTAL LAKE – Susan Wolek stopped last month to get gas at a Crystal Lake station and decided, as she does about once a week, to buy a $1 lottery ticket.

“I usually play $1 a week because I always believed that it only takes one ticket to win,” Wolek said.

And it turned out, that was her one lucky ticket.

The Crystal Lake resident matched all five numbers – 12-17-19-21-35 – in the Nov. 19 drawing of the Lucky Day Lotto Quick Pick. She won $275,000.

“Christmas will be different this year because now we have more to give,” Wolek said in a news release from the Illinois Lottery. “It’s wonderful to be able to help your family; what a nice feeling.”

Wolek discovered her win the day before Thanksgiving, when her husband, Ken, checked the ticket at the store.

“We have so much to be thankful for,” she said.

The Woleks have lived in Crystal Lake for 40 years. They plan to invest the winnings in their retirement, the news release stated.

The winning ticket was bought at Crystal Lake Mart, 770 Virginia Road in Crystal Lake. The store will receive $2,750 for selling the winning ticket.
