Funeral set for fallen Bartelso firefighter

BARTELSO – Funeral arrangements are set for a southern Illinois volunteer firefighter killed while putting out a blaze.

The Belleville News Democrat reported that the funeral for 45-year-old Timothy Jansen will be this morning at St. Cecilia Catholic church in his hometown of Bartelso.

The 15-year firefighting veteran died late Sunday after a fire truck struck him while he was working to control a blaze at a resort clubhouse. Sante Fe Fire Protection District officials say Jansen was pulling hoses off a fire truck when he slipped and the truck struck him.

Jansen is survived by a wife and two young daughters. He owned the Bartelso restaurant MacJenna's, which is across Illinois 161 from the fire station.
