Good hearts

To the Editor:

Selfishness may be alive, but good hearts triumph!

Black Thursday, Black Friday ... while some people shopped for TVs, tablets and toys, some people were wondering whether their family was going to have enough food this coming month. That’s perspective. The problem continues to exist in our county (and the United States), and some of our neighbors did something about it. Even with the tough economy, with some of our neighbors suffering cutbacks and job losses, they still cared enough to help someone else.

Our neighbors are outstanding! As we have in the past 18 years, we asked our neighborhood, Crystal Lake in the Park Phase 1 development, to donate to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry’s annual Community Harvest. A number of them reached into their hearts, their pantries, and their wallets and gave. And they gave generously.

We again filled the van completely when we collected. Seven of our neighbors dropped off food after the initial collection date. On Thanksgiving morning, we dropped off 662.4 pounds of food and cash.

Our neighbors make me smile and make me proud of them. A big thank you to all of you who contributed! Thank you very much! Because of your support, we plan to be back again asking for your help next year.

We wish all of our neighbors a wonderful Christmas season! Merry Christmas and have a blessed 2013!

Vaya con Dios.

Jim and Sandy Christensen
