Harvard High School open despite outage

HARVARD – Harvard High School will be open for classes tomorrow despite a power outage this afternoon.

A transformer is the likely cause of a power outage that knocked out power about 11:30 a.m. at the High School, the district said. ComEd remained at the school this afternoon trying to restore power.

Classes are scheduled tomorrow regardless, District 50 Spokesman Bill Clow said. The District has generators available if the power is not back on by tomorrow morning.

The district already had planned to release students at 12:30 a.m. today for a teacher institute day, so the students remained at the school until that time. The teachers who had training sessions planned at the High School were moved to other schools within the district.

"We got lucky on that aspect," Clow said.
