Outage knocks out power, phone, Internet at Harvard High School
HARVARD – A transformer was the likely cause of a power outage Wednesday that knocked out power at Harvard High School, as well as phone and Internet service districtwide.
The school lost power about 11:30 a.m. But because District 50 already planned to release students for a teacher institute day at 12:30 p.m., students were kept in their classrooms. The teachers who had training sessions at the high school were moved to other schools in the district.
“We got lucky on that aspect,” District 50 spokesman Bill Clow said.
Classes will resume today with the use of generators if ComEd has not already restored power. The electric company remained on the scene at 4 p.m. Wednesday trying to get the power back on.
The outage knocked out the district’s entire phone and Internet service, which is run out of the high school.
