Fighting for reform
To the Editor:
Two years ago, state Rep. Jack Franks became public enemy No. 1 to taxing bodies, while simultaneously becoming the champion of all property owners when he introduced legislation to prohibit local governments from automatically raising property taxes when property values decrease. McHenry County local governments went so far as to hire lobbyists and spend our tax dollars to try to defeat Franks’ taxpayer-friendly legislation.
Franks kept fighting for this reform, and as a result it became the focal point of discussion by local taxing bodies.
