McHenry fire blamed on child, matches

McHENRY – A weekend fire that left a McHenry home uninhabitable was blamed on a child playing with matches, the McHenry Township Fire Protection District said in a news release.

Firefighters were called to the 3200 block of West Skyway Drive about 11 p.m. and found a one-story home engulfed in flames, according to a news release.

The occupants of the home were safely evacuated and no injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The fire was under control within 15 minutes, officials said.

Damage was estimated at more than $150,000. The fire destroyed the entire living area of the home.

Members of the Crystal Lake Fire Rescue Department assisted township firefighters.
