Centegra exec fills spot on D-200 board

WOODSTOCK – A high-ranking administrator with Centegra Health System will fill the District 200 school board seat left by Sue Palmore. Palmore died Nov. 1.

The board Tuesday appointed David Shinherr, director of orthopedics and neurology at Centegra.

Shinherr said the D-200 board is “wonderful to begin with” and the position is a good opportunity “to continue the reputation and provide the best educational opportunities to the students in District 200.”

Three candidates applied and were interviewed for the position.

Shinherr will have to run for re-election to a two-year term in April. Superintendent Ellyn Wrzeski said Shinherr is planning to do so.

Board President Paul Meyer said Shinherr’s experience on boards within his profession made him a unanimous choice.

Shinherr spearheaded a recent concussion initiative through Centegra that led to base-line screenings for 2,500 young athletes in McHenry County.

“I think he brings a very strong understanding of organizations and how boards work,” Wrzeski said.

Shinherr moved to Woodstock six years ago from Syracuse, N.Y. He has two children in District 200, both at Creekside Middle School.

He joins a diverse board, Wrzeski said.

“It’s nice to have some who have kids in the district so that they’re consumers, too,” she said.

She added that Shinherr struck her as perceptive and insightful during the interview process.

“One of the things that really impressed me, he talked about – ‘I might be quiet at first, but I’m somebody that’s going to listen, understand, and if I don’t understand I’m going to ask questions. And then I’ll speak,’ ” Wrzeski said.

Palmore, who was the board’s vice president when she died after a fight with pancreatic cancer, was approaching 10 years on the board.
