French fries spill, shut Route 23 in Marengo

MARENGO – A portion of Route 23 in Marengo was closed for more than 10 hours Thursday after a semitrailer overturned, spilling packages of frozen French fries on the roadway.

The driver was traveling south on Route 23 about 11 p.m. Wednesday when he lost control of the vehicle and it rolled on its side near a ditch, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The accident closed Route 23 between River and Kishwaukee Valley roads.

Two tow trucks were needed to transport the rig from the area, and a separate semitrailer was used to transfer the packaged fries, police said.
