Stocks lower as investors watch Washington
NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks slipped Thursday on Wall Street after more signs of tension emerged from federal budget talks in Washington.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 94 points at 13,151 as of 3:14 p.m. EST. The Standard & Poor's 500 index was down 11 points at 1,417. The Nasdaq composite index was down 28 points at 2,985.
In Washington, House Speaker John Boehner said that the White House was so resistant to cutting government spending that it risked pushing the country off the "fiscal cliff."
