White Christmas not out of question for Illinois
CHAMPAIGN (AP) — It's been a warmer than usual holiday season so far in Illinois, but State Climatologist Jim Angel says a white Christmas is still a remote possibility.
Angel said Friday that historically, the odds of snow on Christmas range from about 20 percent in southern Illinois to up to 60 percent at the northern end of the state.
Illinois' snowiest Christmas on record was 1951. That's when Aurora had 31 inches on the ground after 12 straight days of snow.
