Bond reduced in sex-abuse case
WOODSTOCK – Bond was cut in half Tuesday for a Crystal Lake man accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl.
Michael A. Petersen, 35, was arrested Friday. He faces two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of indecent solicitation.
Petersen’s bond had been set at $100,000, but was reduced by McHenry County Judge Gordon Graham to $50,000. He must post 10 percent, or $5,000, to be released.
Petersen’s attorney, Phil Prossnitz, said that while his client has a criminal record that includes a weapons violation in the 1990s, Petersen has significant ties to the community and has never missed a court date.
Petersen’s father testified that his son has had problems with alcohol, but has been sober for about three years.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dominic Buttitta objected to a bond reduction, saying the allegations against him were serious and that he poses a danger to the community.
Petersen’s next scheduled court date is Jan. 8.
