Breakfast with Santa

To the Editor:

The Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Rotary Club would like to thank everyone who helped make our Breakfast with Santa a huge success.

First, we’d like to thank our advertisers for supporting the cost of our placemats: Attorney Donald R. Brewer, Heydari Health Center, M.J. Munaretto & Co., Commercial Real Estate Group, Jetstream Jimmy’s Detail, From Dee to You Gift Boutique, Algonquin Sub Shop, and Aladdin Mediterranean Grill.

We estimate more than 1,000 people attended our event at Westfield Community School on Dec. 1. Saturday morning setup was filled with a bit of excitement not anticipated by anyone when the smoke from the griddles used to make the pancakes set off the Westfield fire alarm!  Well, the Algonquin Fire Department responded and the entire building had to be evacuated.

The Santa stocking raffle generated more than $1,400 for the Rotary Club, money that is used to help support our local college scholarship program for graduating students of Jacobs High School and Dundee-Crown. The three winners took home a huge Santa stocking filled with toys donated by members of the Rotary Club.

Jacobs’ Rotary Interact Club, under the guidance of teacher Terri Dawson, prepared games for the children to play after their pancake breakfast and their visit with Santa.

Santa and Mrs. Claus were a big hit with the kids.

Our thanks to Monica Brubaker for hosting karaoke and to Dr. Bill Doran, principal at Westfield, for conducting the kids who participated. Christmas carols added quite the festive seasonal flare to Rotary’s Breakfast with Santa.
