CRYSTAL LAKE – Centegra Health System will host free lectures in January about proper weight-lifting techniques and stress management.

• Weight lifting has become more prevalent among youth. For those in active sports, weight lifting has even become somewhat of a necessity, but how much is too much? Dr. William Cox, orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist on staff at Centegra Health System, will explain how adolescents and teenagers can safely maximize their results from weight training. “Weighing the Options for Weight Lifting” will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Huntley, 10450 Algonquin Road.

• Anxiety and stress have the possibility of taking over one’s life. Dr. Zach Sikora, psychologist on staff at Centegra Physician Care, will explain how self-talk directly affects one’s emotional well-being. In addition, attendees will learn how to identify and practically change problematic thinking patterns and beliefs that perpetuate stress and anxiety. “Improving Your Self-Talk: Reducing Stress and Anxiety” will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center – Huntley, 10450 Algonquin Road.
