The fourth annual Live Nativity Service will take place at 4 p.m. Monday at Cody's Farm, 19502 River Road, Marengo.

'Les Misérables' opens in theaters

“Les Misérables,” starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe and Anne Hathaway, opens in theaters.

In 19th-century France, Jean Valjean, who for decades has been hunted by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole, agrees to care for factory worker Fantine's daughter, Cosette. The fateful decision changes their lives forever.

The movie is rated PG-13 for suggestive and sexual material, violence and thematic elements.

Foxx, DiCaprio star in 'Django Unchained'

“Django Unchained,” starring Jamie Foxx, Don Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio, opens in theaters.

With the help of his mentor, a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner.

The movie is not yet rated.

Crystal, Midler, Tomei star in 'Parental Guidance'

“Parental Guidance,” starring Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and Marisa Tomei, opens in theaters.

Artie and Diane agree to look after their three grandkids when their type-A helicopter parents need to leave town for work. Problems arise when the kids' 21st-century behaviors collide with Artie and Diane's old-school methods.

The movie is rated PG for some rude humor.

WEDNESDAY

CL library to host 'eBook Blitz' sessions

A pair of "eBook Blitz" sessions will run from 10 a.m. to noon and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Crystal Lake Public Library, 126 Paddock St.

Those who received a new eReader can drop by the Adult Services Department to learn how to load library ebooks. Help also is available for smartphone, tablet, iPad, iPod Touch, Kindle, Kindle Fire and Nook.

A Crystal Lake Public Library card is necessary to download ebooks.

THURSDAY

Candlelight vigil planned on Woodstock Square

Parents and children, principals and teachers, administrators and community friends are invited to come together for a candlelight vigil from 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Thursday on the Woodstock Square.

The vigil is being organized by McHenry County Regional Superintendent of Schools Leslie Schermerhorn.

The group will join in singing timeless folk songs and share a minute of silence. The event is to show support for the families in the Connecticut community, along with concerns for the safety of the children and schools in McHenry County.

Participants are encouraged to bring a candle (real or flameless), a flashlight or a cellphone can be a Light in the Darkness.

'Musical Merriment with Joel Frankel' at Algonquin library

"Musical Merriment with Joel Frankel" will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Algonquin Area Public Library, 2600 Harnish Drive.

Singer and songwriter Joel Frankel has been captivating audiences with his musical merriment for more than two decades. His four children's albums have received many awards, including a Parents' Choice award. He also is a faculty member at the Old Town School of Folk Music.

No registration is required to attend this program.

Children's art session scheduled at Cary Area Public Library

"Turn Up the Heat – Art for Grades 4 and 5" will run from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Cary Area Public Library, 1606 Three Oaks Road.

Participants will draw themselves reading a book or sleeping under a nice, cozy blanket using patterns and paints. They should wear old clothes.

'School Is Out Movies' to be shown at CL library

The Crystal Lake Public Library, 126 Paddock St., will be showing movies on Thursday and Friday as part of its "School Is Out Movies."

"Brave," rated PG, will be shown Thursday, and "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days," rated PG, will be shown Friday.

Both showings will begin at 1:30 p.m.

FRIDAY

Family Lego Drop-In session set at McHenry library

A Family Lego Drop-In session will run from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the McHenry Public Library, 809 N. Front St.

The family program is for all ages.

Participants will build a winter vacation Lego creation to display in the library.

Children younger than 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Singer/songwriter Bryan White will perform 7 p.m. Saturday at the Woodstock Opera House, 121 Van Buren St., Woodstock.

"YU-GI-OH Battle Royale +" planned at Huntley library

A "YU-GI-OH Battle Royale +" session will take place from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road.

This will be an afternoon of game play. Participants should bring their own card games (Yu-Gi-Oh, Magic, etc.), board games, and RPGs.

The program is for children in grades six to 12.
