District 156 approves 8 percent higher levy

McHENRY – District 156 officials approved an 8 percent tax levy increase despite pleas from two exasperated property owners during Tuesday night’s school board meeting.

The levy increase passed on a 4-1 vote. Board member Steve Bellmore voted against it.

Before the vote, the board held a public hearing, which is required when the tax levy is an increase of 5 percent or more over the previous year.
