LAKE IN THE HILLS – Residents are invited to join the many gardeners and plant growers who might not have room on their own property to grow a vegetable or flower garden.
The village of Lake in the Hills has opened 20 spaces – 20 feet by 20 feet – at the Public Works property off Haligus Road for gardening.
Each space will be roped off and tilled for residents to rent for the growing season. Water will be available via a 750-gallon container. Gardeners should bring their own tools.
In 2012, the plots yielded watermelons, sunflowers, tomatoes and a variety of vegetables.
The garden plots for 2013 will go quickly, so early registration is recommended. Plots will be available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Monday at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate. The fee is $20 for residents and $30 for nonresidents.
