Board dismisses coach linked to hazing claim

PARK RIDGE – A suburban Chicago school board has voted to dismiss a varsity soccer coach after allegations of hazing of student players.

Maine Township High School District 207 school board President Sean Sullivan says Michael Divincenzo violated district policy "by failing to adequately prevent, recognize, report and punish student hazing."

Sullivan said Divincenzo has 17 days to request a hearing through the Illinois State Board of Education. He was suspended without pay for now.

The board will continue to consider disciplinary action against other staff.

Des Plaines police say two 14-year-old freshmen on the soccer team claim they were sexually assaulted inside the school in September as part of a hazing ritual.

Five juveniles have been charged with misdemeanor battery and a sixth was charged in connection to another incident.
