Harvard police look for driver who approached girl

HARVARD – Authorities are searching for a man who threatened to hurt a child if she didn’t get into his vehicle Wednesday, according to the Harvard Police Department.

Police were called to the 500 block of West McKinley Street at around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a suspicious person.

An 11-year-old girl told police that a man in a dark-colored, four-door vehicle with tinted windows pulled up next to her in the 900 block of 4th Street and told her, “If you don’t get in the car, I will hurt you,” according to a news release. The man later fled after seeing squad cars in the area responding to an unrelated incident.

The man was described as being in his 20s with black hair, brown eyes and a butterfly-type tattoo on his neck, police said. He also had a mustache and was wearing sunglasses.

The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident can call 815-943-4431 or 815-943-4343.
