McHenry man admits credit card crime

WOODSTOCK – A McHenry man pleaded guilty to illegally using a young woman’s credit card, and a charge that he sexually assaulted the woman has been dropped.

Antonio J. Sciara, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to two counts of misuse of a credit card and was sentenced to six months in jail.

With credit for time served, his scheduled release date is Jan. 8.

Sciara also must serve two years of probation, pay about $765 in restitution, complete a psychological evaluation and follow all court recommendations. He also must submit to at least six random drug tests.

Assistant State’s Attorney Dominic Buttitta said the victim did not want to move forward with sexual assault charges.

“The victim was in a bad situation, but this was not forced,” Buttitta said.

Prosecutors also dropped charges against Sciara in an aggravated battery and mob action case, in which he was accused of kicking and punching a man in the face, causing a skull fracture, orbital fracture and cuts and bruises.

Buttitta said co-defendants in that case who have pleaded guilty gave sworn testimony that Sciara was not present during that incident.
