Huntley library to host Library Luau event

A Library Luau will take place from 3 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Huntley Area Public Library, 11000 Ruth Road.

During this Hawaiian-themed event, participants will learn to hula, play some games, and make shark tooth necklaces.

The program is for children in grades six to 12.

'A Dark Truth' tells tale of former CIA operative

“A Dark Truth,” starring Andy Garcia, Kim Koates and Deborah Kara Unger, opens in theaters.

A former CIA operative turned political talk show host is hired by a corporate whistle-blower to expose her company's cover-up of a massacre in a South American village.

The movie is rated R for violence and disturbing images.

Flea circus to make stop at McHenry library

"Professor Marvel's Amazing Flea Circus" will take place from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Friday at the McHenry Public Library, 809 N. Front St.

During the late 1800s, flea circuses were all the rage across Europe and America. Crowds large and small flocked to see tiny fleas perform amazing feats of strength and derring-do.

During this all-ages show, Professor Marvel will take attendees back to the days of the traveling medicine show and flea circus.

Square dance club to host dance in Johnsburg

The McHenry B&B Square Dance Club will host a dance Friday at the Johnsburg Community Club, 2315 W. Church St., Johnsburg.

Angie Huckeby will call the rounds at 8 p.m., and Bob Asp will call the squares at 8:30 p.m.

The cost is $5 for members and $6 for visitors. All dancers are welcome. Dress is casual.

MCCD to host Frosty Fishing Fair

The McHenry County Conservation District will host a Frosty Fishing Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at The Hollows Conservation Area at Lake Atwood, 3804 Route 14, Cary.
