Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte (22) is congratulated by teammate tackle Gabe Carimi after his 1-yard touchdown during the second quarter of an NFL football game against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday.

The Bears needed a win and then help from the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

The Bears did their part, though it wasn't pretty, beating Detroit 26-24. But the Minnesota Vikings beat Green Bay, 37-34, to claim the final NFC wild card spot. The Bears finish the season at 10-6.

The Bears scored on a 60-yard Earl Bennett touchdown catch and a 1-yard Matt Forte touchdown run in the first half. Olindo Mare has four field goals.

The Bears' win eliminated the N.Y. GIants (9-7) from playoff contention.

With the win, the Vikings (10-6) will travel to play the Packers (11-5) Saturday or Sunday next week.
