Health department, Centegra offer quit-smoking class

CRYSTAL LAKE – A seven-week quit smoking class for adults is offered by McHenry County Department of Health and Centegra Health System.

The class begins Jan. 9 and teaches practical ways to end nicotine addiction through group support and behavior modification. It also reviews nicotine replacement products.

Instruction is provided by health department staff trained in the American Lung Association’s “Freedom from Smoking” program. It is made possible by funds received from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Classes will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays, beginning Jan. 9, at Centegra Health Bridge Fitness Center, Crystal Lake, 200 Congress Parkway.

A $25 course fee, payable at the first class, is refundable if all seven sessions are attended. Class members also will receive a free three-day pass to the Health Bridge Fitness Center.

For more information and to register, call 1-877-236-8347, or visit www.mcdh.info.

To speak with a counselor immediately, call the Illinois Tobacco Quit Line at 1-866-784-8937.
