Algonquin fire kills 84-year-old man, dog

ALGONQUIN -- An elderly man was found dead at the scene of a house fire late Tuesday in the 4700 block of Iroquois Road in Algonquin.

Patrick Sheahan, 84, died in his home at 4780 Iroquois Road. A family dog also was found dead.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Investigators as well as the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal have not as yet determined the cause of the fire, according to a fire department news release. A damage amount is not yet available.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District crews were dispatched at 11:11 p.m. Tuesday to 4780 Iroquois Road for a report of an elderly resident trapped in a home that was on fire, the news release said.

A neighbor had called 911, the release said.

When fire crews arrived at 11:15 p.m., they found a single-story, ranch-style home with smoke and fire showing. The fire already had burned through the floor of the home, the release said.

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District received assistance from the Huntley, Crystal Lake, Barrington, Carpentersville, East Dundee, Cary, Fox River Grove, McHenry Township, Woodstock, West Dundee and Rutland-Dundee fire departments, as well as the Algonquin Police Department and McHenry County Sheriff.
