Mobile grooming reduces stress for pets, owners
HOLIDAY HILLS – Suzanne and Bob Church believe that a groomer coming to your doorstep eliminates a world of stress for both owner and pet.
The Holiday Hills couple bought a 2010 camper and converted it into a mobile grooming salon. Clippers Mobile Grooming opened for business last November.
Since then, business has been steady. "There's a big demand for it," Bob said.
"We started the business really to help the animals," Suzanne said. "We were hearing from people complaining about their dogs being muzzled and staying in cages for hours."
The grooming experience, in some cases, "exhausts owners and exhausts pets," she said.
"Some places don't want to work with cats or work with larger dogs," Suzanne said. "There has to be a niche for elderly and handicapped animals. We groomed a three-legged Lab recently. You have to provide special care for them."
Suzanne said they allow extra time for animals that have special needs. "We take into consideration things like health issues and allergies."
Cats can be challenging. "They'll let you mess with them for 15 minutes – tops," Suzanne said. "Cats are harder to read. They're nothing like dogs. They have a different mental makeup. None of them are thrilled with water, and most of them hate having their nails clipped."
Clippers Mobile Grooming interviews the pet owner before the grooming. "The owner is right there if an issue arises – whether it's medical or emotional."
The Churches own three dogs, two of them rescue dogs.
"Rescue animals have to be handled with special care," Suzanne said. "You never know what will set a formerly abused animal off. Some animals have baggage, just like people."
"We love all pets – large and small, canine or feline," Suzanne said. "We believe that no matter their age, size or condition that they should have care that is individual to their needs and the wishes of their owner – to be safe and with care, right on their own doorstep."
A complete grooming costs $45, slightly more for pets whose fur is matted. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 815-219-2604.
