MARENGO - Route 20 near Johnson Road west of Marengo has reopened following a head-on collision Friday morning that left one man dead and another injured, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office.

A vehicle being driven by an elderly man was traveling west on Route 20 when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a sedan heading east, Undersheriff Andrew Zinke said. The driver of the sedan was a mechanic on his way to work at a Crystal Lake car dealership.

The 63-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, Zinke said.

He has been identified as Stephan A. Ford, of Garden Prairie.

Ford was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, police said, and his sedan was not equipped with airbags.

The other driver, identified as Roderick Mann, 86, of Lincolnshire, was transported to Centegra Hospital - Woodstock with injuries that were not life threatening, authorities said. Airbags deployed in his Lincoln MKZ, and he was wearing a seatbelt.

Emergency crews received the call at around 6 a.m.
