HUNTLEY – Nearly 26 million children and adults in the United States have diabetes.

For too many Americans, diabetes is thought of as a minor hindrance rather than the life-changing disease that it is. Centegra Health System is working through support groups to raise awareness of diabetes and the people it affects.

Diabetes patients will share testimonials, tips and tricks Jan. 31 on getting motivated to exercise at Centegra Health Center – Huntley. The diabetes support group meets quarterly to support anyone with diabetes and their family members.

To register, call 877-236-8347.

Centegra Health System’s nutrition consultants are available for personalized diabetes nutrition consultations. They are registered dietitians and members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and have advanced training in weight management, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, oncology and sports medicine. Fees vary. To arrange a consultation, call 815-356-2382.

With Centegra’s diabetes self-management training, a registered nurse and registered dietitian provide training to manage blood glucose, treat diabetes complications and make choices on nutrition, exercise and diabetes prevention.
