Published: Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 5:30 a.m. CDT

FOX RIVER GROVE – Norge Ski Club in Fox River Grove again has been chosen to host an international ski-jumping competition.

Ski jumpers from around the world will compete Jan. 27 for top honors at one of the world’s oldest continuous ski-jumping facilities.

Besides champions from Norway, Poland, Finland and Ukraine, the local club has invited Slovenia, a country that has produced many world-class jumpers and Olympic champions.

Norge Ski Club was founded in 1905 by a small group of Norwegian immigrants. Norge was one of the founders of the U.S. Ski Association, and many of its members are in the Ski Hall of Fame in Ishpeming, Mich.

On Jan. 26, there also will be a junior ski-jumping competition for jumpers under age 18.

On both days, the jumping begins a noon. Pre-sale buttons, good for both days, are $10 and available at area merchants. At the gate on tournament day, the cost is $15. Children 12 and under are admitted free.

There will be two bars and food concession stands. Pets and carry-ins are prohibited.

Norge is three blocks north of Routes 22 and 14 in Fox River Grove.

A free shuttle will run from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday from Dominick’s parking lot and in front of Tinman’s Pub. A shuttle also will run from the Metra station to Norge.
