MCC offers yoga, fitness classes

The classes are:

• Xtend Barre: This total-body workout serves to strengthen, lengthen and stretch the body from top to bottom, from inside out. The end result is a long and lean physique without added bulk. This workout combines the results of dance with the principles of Pilates, while providing two cardio elements, burning up to 450 calories at the dance barre. The class will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Fridays, Feb. 1 through March 1, at the Body and Mind Pilates Plus in Crystal Lake. The cost is $50.  Use course ID: NHE S71 003 when registering.

• Beginner’s Yoga: Yoga can improve strength and flexibility. Asanas (postures) will be explored as they relate to everyday movements and activities. Participants should bring a large towel. They should not eat a large meal before class and should not wear perfumes or scented body products. The class will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturdays, Feb. 2 through Feb. 23, at Kalitrea Yoga studio, 4410 Route 176. The cost is $45. Use course ID: NHE S13 002 when registering.

• Women’s Self-Defense: One of every three women will be a victim of sexual assault in her lifetime. The greatest number of rapes occurs in homes or apartments, and the rape victim is selected because she is alone and vulnerable. This women’s self-defense class will cover topics such as myths of self-defense, verbalization and using the body as a self-defense tool. The class includes one hour of lecture and one hour of hands-on technique lessons. The class will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Feb. 19 at MCC in Room E217. The cost is $15.  Use course ID: NPL S14 002 when registering.

• Men’s Basketball: This is not an instructional class, but rather a chance to play basketball. No coach will be on hand, but a basketball supervisor will be present. Basketball takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Sundays, March 3 through April 21, in the MCC Gym/Multi-purpose Room, A107. The cost is $27. Use course ID: NRE S11 003 when registering.
