Cook County releases new camping plan

CHICAGO — Cook County officials have released a new master plan for camping that outlines some improvements for the region.

Officials say the goal of the new plan is to introduce the next generation of nature lovers to the natural wonders in the state's most populous county.

The plan shows efforts to revitalize existing locations, create new destinations and develop special event campsites near nature centers.

Officials say the proposals presented in the camping plan are concepts.

Architectural and engineering plans will be developed for each of the priority sites in the spring of 2013. Priority sites include Camp Reinberg in Palatine and Camp Sullivan in Tinley Park.

Work is expected to begin this summer.
