First United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake is approaching its 175th anniversary this year, and the congregation also is celebrating a shorter but significant milestone.

For 10 years, members have hosted a weekly Community Dinner each Sunday evening for anyone who wants to attend, including the less fortunate members of the community.

Some aspects of religion might seem mysterious, complicated and difficult for certain folks to grasp. But there are also plenty of simple concepts in Christianity and other major religions. Feeding the poor is usually among them, and it is a powerful demonstration of faith.
