Do you feel like you pick up bad habits around the holidays? Not only were we busy with regular holiday activities this year, but we also moved to a new home 4 days before Christmas.
Now, some of you may think that dietitians eat perfectly all the time – I can tell you up front that this is not true. We are people too, especially in cases like I have just described.
I will admit to a diet of take out and pizza for the whole family for 2-3 weeks straight. In the midst of all the stress, I wasn’t too worried about making the healthiest choices either, and I liked it. There are definitely physiological and psychological ways that the body can become addicted to fat, sugar, and salt – I was addicted to all of these during the holidays this year, and I liked it.
Now we are finally getting settled, the holiday visits and parties are over, and things are getting back to normal. I realize how nice it is to eat a relatively healthy dinner at the table again as a family. The Dessert and Saturated Fat–O-Meters are returning to normal levels and I am good with it.
I feel I am purging myself of the holiday food madness and it feels good and right! Here’s to a new year of healthy eating!
