The Bears hired a pair of assistant coaches Friday to join Marc Trestman's new staff.
Matt Cavanaugh was named as quarterbacks coach after spending the past four seasons in the same role with the New York Jets. Meanwhile, Skip Peete was named as running backs coach after spending the past six seasons in the same role with the Dallas Cowboys.
Both men have previous ties to either Trestman or the Bears.
Peete, who is the brother of former NFL quarterback Rodney Peete, worked alongside Trestman on the Oakland Raiders' coaching staff before heading to Dallas. The Raiders led the league in rushing in 2000 and posted the NFL's No. 1 overall offense in 2002.
Cavanaugh served as the Bears' offensive coordinator from 1997 to 1998. In his first season calling plays, Erik Kramer passed for 3,011 yards and Raymont Harris rushed for 1,033 yards.
Bears general manager Phil Emery said he hoped to have the coaching staff fully assembled by the middle of next week. The Bears' biggest vacancy is defensive coordinator after Rod Marinelli decided not to return after four seasons with the team.
