Commend arcade owners

To the Editor:

A great article was on the Northwest Herald front page on Jan. 14: “Just fun and games.” This was about the owners of an arcade in Algonquin who saw two boys shooting the pretend guns of one of the games at each other and saying, “Bang, your dead.” They decided that they would take responsibility for the games in their arcade that might play into the violence showing up at schools in this country.

The owners then played all of their own games and decided 12 needed to be taken away as too violent. I think they should be commended for their care and doing what they could do in their own sphere of responsibility. They happen to have a larger sphere in this regard, but we all should be doing what we can in our own spheres.

These arcade owners are men of honor in doing what they thought best, even if it might affect the bottom line in having fewer games to be played in their arcade. They should be commended for doing what they could do – being part of the solution.
