TLC workdays Wednesday and Saturday

WOODSTOCK – The Land Conservancy of McHenry County will host two events where volunteers will cut, stack and burn invasive brush that is threatening the health of 200-year-old oak trees.

Tools will be supplied, there will brush fires for warmth, and snacks and something warm for lunch will be provided at the end of each event.

• Barnard Mill Preserve, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today: This will be the first restoration event at this petite oak woodland and wetland 600 feet south of the Busy Bee Restaurant on Barnard Mill Road in Ringwood. The site is immediately south of C & A Autobody, 7140 Barnard Mill Road. Volunteers should pull into the C&A parking lot, and someone will provide parking instructions.

• Gateway Park, 9 a.m. to 1 noon Saturday: This will be the first oak rescue of the year at Harvard’s Gateway Park. The site is at Route 23 and Heritage Lane in Harvard. Volunteers should enter the site from Marengo Road – look for other vehicles, and park near them.

TLC is a nonprofit land conservation organization that works to preserve and restore natural, agricultural and scenic lands throughout McHenry County. For information, visit www.conservemc.org or call 815-337-9502.
