Woman pleads guilty in DUI accident that killed Marengo man

An Aurora woman was sentenced to seven years in prison for her role in a 2009 accident that killed a Marengo man.

Linda L. Knotts, 48, of the 200 block of East Galena Boulevard, Aurora, pleaded guilty Thursday in Kane County to aggravated driving under the influence, a Class 2 felony.

Knotts was trying to pass another vehicle in a no-passing zone on Route 47 near Merrill Road, north of Sugar Grove, when she hit the car driven by William McKenzie, 54, of Marengo, according to previous coverage and a news release from the Kane County State's Attorney Office.

McKenzie was declared dead a short time later at a nearby hospital.

Knotts had cocaine in her system at the time of the March, 20, 2009, accident, a police investigation discovered. She was also driving 73 mph in a 55 mph speed zone, an accident reconstruction showed.

Knotts must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence. She will receive credit for 32 days served in the Kane County Jail.
