Bring God out

To the Editor:

Prior to the swearing in of our new chief of police here in Crystal Lake, a member of the clergy from our community was asked to say a prayer. Shortly before the event was to take place, the priest was informed a decision was made that the prayer was now going to take place behind closed doors and not in the public chambers! Mayor Aaron Shepley, how far is political correctness going to go?

Whether the clergy was from our parish or another denomination really doesn’t make any difference to me. What is of concern is an attitude toward God and relegating Him, out of sight and out of mind, behind closed doors.

Do you think during the catastrophe of Sept. 11 the men and women in blue weren’t praying in public as the towers came down? How about all the other monstrous acts that are occurring so often today in our country? Maybe if we really bring God out into the public, instead of trying to push him out, our world might be a better place.
